The Oman Medical Specialty Board (OMSB) has organized the admission examination for the 2026/2027 academic year. A total of 719 physicians from within and outside the Sultanate of Oman have registered to take the exam, competing for spots in 21 specialized training programs offered by the Board.
The examination is being conducted over eight days spanning three weeks; 690 physicians are taking the exam within the Sultanate, while 29 are taking it at internationally accredited centers abroad. This step marks the beginning of their professional careers across various medical specialties.
The exam was prepared according to high-quality scientific and methodological standards. The Board’s Professional Competence Department developed the exam and drafted its questions in collaboration with highly qualified local experts from various specialty programs, ensuring the exam is comprehensive, objective, and aligned with the approved curricula of each specialty program.
Upon passing the admission exam, applicants undergo evaluative personal interviews conducted by specialized committees—comprising members of educational committees and faculty—in preparation for final admission into the specialized training programs.
The Board utilizes several accredited training centers to qualify physicians during their residency in these specialty programs, which range from four to six years in duration. These centers include Ministry of Health hospitals, the Medical City for Military and Security Services, the University Medical City, and various referral hospitals across the governorates.
